STRONGER FAMILIES FOUNDATION

The Stronger Families Foundation (SFF) was started by Geoff and Jackie Hart Davies .It aims to break the cycle of intergenerational violence to assure the safety and well-being of our most vulnerable children, by supporting mothers, and engaging fathers to promote safe and responsible parenting. SFF provides the Caring Dads program, currently in the Peel region. Caring Dads is a 17 week evidence based group intervention. It was designed around the premise that violence against women and violence against children are strongly linked, and that these two issues both can, and should be addressed together.

Caring Dads works with fathers (including biological, step, and common-law) who have been abusive, neglectful, or violent in their families or who are deemed to be at high-risk for these behaviors. Caring Dads start with the focus on how violence in the home affects children and on raising men’s awareness about how disrespect towards the mother is also a form of violence against children.There are three components to the Caring Dads program:

• the 17 week group intervention program for men;

• systematic outreach to children’s mothers;

• coordinated case management to ensure that child safety and well-being is enhanced as a result of fathers’ involvement in intervention.
